15" - 24" - 30" - and Custom Sizes

Our side cabinets come in two basic widths, 15" and 24" wide. Our desk unit is 30" wide. They are designed to be used along side of the main bed cabinet of your MurphyBED. They can also be placed in other parts of the room. This would give you a "matching set" of furniture for your room. Below are renderings of the standard side cabinets configurations that are available.

 

Important note about standard widths, depths, and heights: These are standard sizes that work well alongside our Murphy Beds. The side cabinets are typically not as deep and not as tall as the bed cabinet. This affords a nice presentation that looks great. (See the left photo above.) However, you may have different requirements. We can make the side cabinets the same height and depth, different widths, and with different shelf/door/drawer configurations than what we show on the website. Some of these variations are shown in our online photos of existing installations.

We can even make the bed cabinet and side cabinets extra deep (say 24") to accommodate 21" deep drawers, deep shelves, and extra storage behind the headboard inside the bed cabinet.

These standard sizes may meet your needs. However, if they do not, we can modify these to fit your space. We are the factory. We can design and build different sizes for you. Just ask us.

Hardware

All of our doors come with hardware pulls (handles) and hidden hinges. The hinges have a built-in SOFT-close feature that prevents the door from slamming shut. The drawer slides also have the built-in SOFT-close feature. This is a nice feature, especially if someone is sleeping when you need to access the cabinet. You won't wake them up with the sound of a door banging shut.

Drawer Construction

All of our drawers are dove-tail construction with under-mount, full-extension runners and the SOFT-close feature. The dove-tail construction is the best and strongest method for building drawers. The under-mount runners means you don't have to look at unsightly hardware when you open a drawer. This is, after all, beautiful furniture in your home. The full-extension feature means that the drawer opens all the way allowing easy access to every thing in the drawer including items at the very back. There is no need to shift things around, or remove things in front, to get to your items stored in the back. The SOFT-close feature eliminates the sound of slamming drawers. When the drawer is within an inch or so of closing, it quietly closes itself.

All of the hardware carries a manufacturer's life-time warranty. We take pride in only using the best hardware available for your benefit.

15" wide cabinets come in many different configurations. These are a combination of open, adjustable shelves, doors (with adjustable shelves behind them), and drawers. Doors can be ordered as left or right so the handles are properly located. Some of the possibilities are shown above.

File Drawers

If you need to store hanging files, these cabinets can be built a little wider to accommodate the necessary drawer box size. The cabinets would need to be at least 16.5" wide to do so. If you have questions, please ask us.

24" wide cabinets come in many different configurations. These are similar to the 15" wide cabinets, however the doors are paired. (A 24" wide door in a sleeping area can be considered too unwieldly.) Some of the possibilities are show above.

File Drawers

Built-in file drawers for both letter and legal sizes are available. The large drawers shown above will accommodate hanging file folders. Just let us know if you need to store hanging files. We will include the bars with your drawer boxes. The bars can be moved for letter or legal, or removed altogether if not needed. They can be set back in place if you need them again. No tools required.

Valet Rod

Cabinets may also have a Valet Rod option. By moving their adjustable shelves down, or removing the shelves completely, one can hang clothes in the upper section. Your guests will appreciate having their own space to hang items close at hand without having to "share" your other closet space.

For our typical MurphyBED cabinetry, the Valet Rod is factory installed at the top and runs from front to back.

For special applications, deep cabinets can be built with the Valet Rod running from left to right and at adjustable heights.

30" wide Desk cabinet

This unit features a writing/work surface at standard 30" desk height with adjustable shelves above and plenty of knee-space below.
